How do I work while traveling?
What does work look like while traveling, and what are three activities my wife and I do all the time? I’m answering that in this post.

Hello friend,
In a previous post, I talked about what digital nomading is. I was saying that the digital nomading lifestyle means traveling and living in different places, while still working.
In this post, I want to get into more details: what types of work you can do while traveling.
⚠️ Disclaimer: this isn’t a comprehensive list. I’m talking from my own experience and sharing with you what my wife and I tried and what worked for us.
My experience
If you don’t know anything about me, let me give you a brief context: I’m a programmer with 10 years of experience working on his own projects.
Most of my career I’ve been working remotely. I started freelancing really early, and I chose working remotely as a way of doing it.
The benefit of programming is that, in the majority of cases, it allows you to work from home. But home can be anywhere, right? I think you know where this goes.
There are a multitude of jobs that can be done remotely:
1. Writing code
I’ve been writing code for more than a decade. You don’t have to go to an office to work as a programmer. Especially if you’re a freelancer or contractor, working remotely is a wonderful option.
Till this day, people consider learning how to write code, and switching careers. I think it became harder because of AI. Not because AI will take our jobs, but because the bar has been raised pretty high.
But don’t get discouraged: it’s definitely doable, with the right mindset and if you’re willing to put in the effort.
2. Content creation
Even if you have a day-job, content creation can become your side hustle. Traveling is an opportunity to create more content, to share authentic stories, and, why not, to build a personal brand that can lead you to all sorts of collaborations in the long run.
Think of the photos you take and the videos you record as assets you can use over and over again. That’s exactly what I do: I take as many photos as possible, that I reuse when I’m back home, and don’t have enough time to go out or travel more.
Why do content creation? There are many reasons. Just to scratch the surface, building an audience, promoting your products, creating a portfolio that can get you a job and becoming a better communicator are just a few reasons that came to my mind.

3. Networking
One of the main benefits of traveling, in my opinion, is meeting like-minded people. During my recent trip to Thailand, I met many digital nomads, people that work remotely and, because of that, I got a different perspective on traveling and life in general.
Whenever I travel, most of the time I try to find great places where I can visit local cafes and coworking spaces, join local meetups and meet other people I talk to online.
My recent trip to Thailand was incredible for this exact reason: I had a chance to meet in real life many people I talked to on social media platforms. I also have a great story to share:
A couple of days pasted since I arrived in Chiang Mai, and while I was enjoying a coffee in a beautiful cafe in the One Nimman area at 8AM or pretty early, a guy reached out because he saw the stickers I have on my laptop. He’s an entrepreneur from USA and it’s his first time visiting Chiang Mai and working on his business while traveling.
We had a good 15-minute chat about our products, and I felt so inspired afterwards.
As I was saying, you end up meeting all sorts of interesting people in these digital nomad hubs. Definitely consider visiting them if you have a chance!
