Greece Again? You're reading this while I'm on a plane to Thessaloniki š¬š·
You're reading this while I'm somewhere over Europe. This is my 4th trip to Greece, this time in Thessaloniki. Why? Find out below!
Thank you for checking out this newsletter. Iām in a phase where Iām trying to expand the audience.
So, if you have a friend who might be interested in reading my posts, please share this one with them.
Now back to the newsletter!
When you receive this newsletter, Iām on my way to Greece.
Some of my friends asked: Greece? Youāve been there 3 years in a row. Why do you visit it for the 4th time?
So, this is the perfect opportunity to share with you why digital nomading and working remotely is different than a typical vacation.
But first, let me share a little story:
My little to no interaction with Thessaloniki š„²
As you might have guessed, weāre traveling to Thessaloniki.
Thereās something that happened during our previous trip that reminds me of this city: if you drive on the highway on the northern side of Greece, most likely youāll get close to Thessaloniki. Near Thessaloniki, thereās a highway junction on multiple levels.
I remember it very well. We took the wrong exit, not once but twice š¤¦
Hopefully, things will be different this time: we took the plane.
So why Thessaloniki?
Visiting a Greek city for real
This will be my 4th time visiting Greece. So far, we visited only touristy areas.
Weāve been to Thassos, and to Zakynthos: both are, in some sense, touristy places. I have to admit that we had a chance to see some smaller cities, but not that much.
During one of the trips, we shortly stopped by in Kavala, but it was super, super, super busy. It was so busy that we simply couldnāt find a parking spot. And no, Iām not even exaggerating.
My wife saw a vlog presenting a famous restaurant in town. We were hungry, so we thought: why not stop on our road and grab something to eat? We simply left because we got stuck in traffic for like 45min, with no chance to park the car.
What we could see from the windows of our car looked great. Narrow streets, good-looking cafes and some sort of relaxation that we saw in many cities close to sea.
Thatās when we said: āOne day we want to go an visit the urban part of Greece. Not a touristy place necessarily, but a city where locals live.ā And we picked Thessaloniki.
Relaxation
I remember one morning very well: my family went to the beach, and I, instead of getting in the water, decided to stay on my own at a nearby beach terrace.
I remember enjoying a Greek Salad. Itās simple, yet very tasty. Salty cheese, delicious tomatoes (I love tomatoes in general), all great, but the olive oil was simply amaaaazing!
Sorry, I have water in my mouth right now.
That morning was perfect: no music, no talking, just looking at the water, and spending some time in silence, looking at the sea with some food and a cup of coffee. Thatās one reason I visit Greece: the atmosphere!
Work
As I was saying in the beginning of this post, Iām not on a typical vacation. I still work.
All my work requires creativity and the ability to focus. I find that staying home simply doesnāt give me enough inspiration sometimes.
Luckily, nowadays we have great weather back home, but still: I work a lot, I stay inside with my laptop and try to be super productive.
Traveling, on the other hand, excites me. I want to explore the city, find great cafes where I can enjoy a coffee and maybe a brunch, and finish a couple of tasks.
We all have to work. Iām so grateful that I can have this lifestyle: work from anywhere.
Expectations
As far as I can tell, Thessaloniki has many things to offer. From history, food, local markets, the sea, everything at your disposal.
I have to be honest: I rarely have expectations when visiting a place. Also my to-do list is pretty short.
Why? I enjoy so much exploring the place on my own, figuring out most of the things as time passes.
I know itāll be an amazing experience, and an unforgettable trip.
So I encourage you to follow along: Iāll continue writing this weekly newsletter. If you didnāt subscribe, make sure to do so.
My plan is to record some travel vlogs from Thessaloniki, but weāll see how things go!
Thank you for reading!
